Choosing a scaffolder is not like choosing a tiler or painter. Get it wrong and your build stops, your trades sit idle, and your liability exposure goes through the roof. Get it right and you barely think about scaffold for the rest of the project — which is exactly the point.
Here's how to separate the operators worth hiring from the ones worth avoiding.
The 5-Question Filter
Ask every quoting scaffolder these five questions. The answers will tell you almost everything you need to know.

Sunshine Coast jobs need a Sunshine Coast yard. National operators outsource to local subbies anyway — and you pay for the head office. A locally-owned scaffolder:
- Knows the council inspectors and how each council operates
- Understands coastal wind ratings and hinterland access
- Can be on site for a modification within a day, not a week
- Has a reputation in the local builder community to protect
Reputation Test
Ask the scaffolder for three builder references on the Coast. Ring them. Ask one question: "Would you use them again?" Hesitation is your answer.
Red Flags to Walk Away From
- ✕ Verbal-only quotes, or quotes without an ABN on the document
- ✕ "Cash discount" pricing
- ✕ No proof of insurance when asked
- ✕ Subcontracted crews you've never met
- ✕ Components that look rusted, bent or non-uniform
- ✕ Pressure to sign immediately
